Recitals are one of the most rewarding parts of learning an instrument, but they can also be nerve-wracking for first-time performers. Weeks before the event, our instructors begin layering in performance practice alongside regular lessons.
We encourage students to perform for family members at home, record themselves, and rehearse walking on and off an imaginary stage. By the time recital day arrives, most students say the hardest part was the final clap before their turn.
Parents can help by keeping the mood light and celebrating effort over perfection, whatever the outcome on stage.
